Diagnostic Endoscopy (Gastroscopy/Colonoscopy)
A colonoscopy is a procedure to look at the inside of your large bowel (colon) using a flexible endoscope (camera).
A gastroscopy is a procedure to look at the inside of your oesophagus (gullet, stomach and duodenum (beginning of your small bowel) using a flexible endoscope.

Capsule Endoscopy
Capsule endoscopy is an effective procedure to visualize the small bowel. The procedure involves the patient swallowing the capsule, which travels naturally through the digestive tract and is then excreted.
- Gastrointestinal bleeding where a source is not identified at gastroscopy and colonoscopy
ERCP: Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatograpy
An ERCP is a procedure to look for any problems in your bile duct or pancreatic duct (tubes that carry bile from te liver and digestive juices from the pancreas to the intestine).
- Treatment of biliary and pancreatic disease
-
Access to Spyglass technology for the management of complex biliary strictures and stone disease.
A/Prof Sujie Chandran undertakes a high volume of cholangioscopy utilizing the spyglass system across Austin and Peninsula Health.

EUS: Endoscopic Ultrasound
An endoscopic ultrasound is a procedure to look at the wall of your oesophagus (gullet), stomach and duodenum using a flexible telescope. Sometimes an endoscopic ultrasound is performed to check problems in your pancreas or to see if you have gallstones that have moved into your bile ducts.
- Upper gastrointestinal diseases (Submucosal tumour assessment and cancer staging/diagnosis)
- Fiducial placement
- Hepato-biliary EUS
- Variceal coil embolization
Complex Tissue Resection
EMR: Endoscopic Mucosal Resection
EMR is a procedure used to remove polyps or other growths from the gastrointestinal tract, large lesions are removed in smaller pieces.
ESD: Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection
ESD allows your doctor to completely remove a tumour or other lesion in the digestive tract in one piece.
FTRD: Full Thickness Resection Device
FTRD is a procedure used to remove small tumours or other growths from the gastrointestinal tract.

Barrett’s Oesophagus Management
Endoscopy is vital in Barrett’s Oesophagus Management for diagnosis, regular surveillance, treatment of dysplasia, and post-treatment follow-up. It allows for visual inspection, biopsy collection, and implementation of techniques like mucosal resection or ablation when necessary.
Multi-disciplinary Cancer Management
A/Prof Sujie is involved with multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings including:
- Upper Gastro-intestinal MDT
- Hepato-biliary MDT
- Colorectal MDT
These meetings involve specialist surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and pathologists. A/Prof Sujie attends these meetings as the Gastroenterologist representative.
